This painting represents the power and importance of the night prayer (qiyaam ul layl) in Islam. I was always taught the magnitude of waking up to pray when the world around us is asleep, it gives us tranquillity to pray and converse with our Lord.
I had the following hadith in mind when creating this piece of work :
It was narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh (1145) and by Muslim (1261) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven when one-third of the night remains and says: ‘Who will call upon Me, that I may answer Him? Who will ask of Me, that I may give him? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?’”
Knowing that Allah is so close at the time of qiyaam, shows that He is most likely to accept our prayers as this quote suggests: ‘ the Duah made at Tahajjud is like the arrow which does not miss its target’ Imam As shafi
